| Small portions of upper Wainiha are heavily disturbed by pigs and weeds, particularly on a few small flats located along the stream bed. In comparison, the valley walls and upper south fork are still in pristine condition. Photos by Nicolai Barca and were taken from video frames. Feral Pigs modify habitat to the benefit of disturbance colonizing weeds, trample and consume rare native plants, prevent regeneration of most native species, and cause erosion and stream sedimentation. Pigs are to be controled within the upper portions of this remote preserve. |
